Defender Ryan James has left Oxford United following a six-month spell with the League Two club.

James, 22, signed from the Nike Academy in May 2011 and toured with the U's to the United States in July.

But the former Grays player has been sidelined for over three months with an ankle injury, and has not made a competitive appearance for Oxford.

"I think I have got loads out of the experience at Oxford," Ryan told the official website.

James was at the QPR and Millwall youth academies but his only experience of playing first-team football in England was with Grays in 2009.

He added: "I have really enjoyed my time and have learnt lots from those around me.

"It has been a great club to be at. I have gained some useful knowledge and experience while I have been here and want to use this is a foundation to take into the rest of my career."
