Jewell comments are sexist, says referees' chief
- From the section Football
The head of the referees' union Alan Leighton criticises Paul Jewell for comments the Ipswich manger made about female assistant referee Amy Fearn.
Jewell was furious after his side were not awarded a penalty during Wednesday's 2-1 defeat at Birmingham, responding to a journalist's suggestion that "everyone to a man thought it was a penalty" with the comment "to every man, but not a woman... Although the referee didn't have a good view, the lineswoman, or whatever she's called, had a great view."
Leighton tells BBC Radio 5 live that Jewell's comments were "sexist and there is no place for them in football".
