Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback will be out for up to a month with an ankle injury he picked up prior to the 4-1 win at Wigan earlier this month.

The 22-year-old played the full game despite suffering the injury in the warm-up at the DW Stadium, but missed Sunday's FA Cup tie at Peterborough.

Colback, who recently signed a two-year extension to his contract, has appeared in 20 games for Sunderland this season.

He also scored his first goal in the 1-1 Boxing Day draw with Everton.

The Academy product had loan spells with Ipswich in 2009-10, when he was named players' player of the year by the Suffolk club, and the start of the last campaign.

Colback returned to Sunderland in January 2011 and established himself as a regular member of the Black Cats' midfield towards the end of last season.
