League One promotion candidates Sheffield Wednesday have signed midfielder Mike Jones from Bury for an undisclosed fee.
The Owls triggered a release clause in the 24-year-old's contract.
Jones, who had been offered a new deal by the Shakers, is intended to replace James Tavernier, whose loan spell from Newcastle has come to an end.
The former Tranmere youngster, who joined Bury in 2008, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Owls.
Meanwhile, chairman Milan Mandaric says the club is in talks to re-sign Stoke City midfielder Ben Marshall.
Mandaric said: "There is on-going communication between the club and Ben and his agent, and I am still hopeful."
The 20-year-old, who has impressed during his time at Hillsborough, has returned to the Britannia Stadium, but Mandaric has not ruled trying to sign the winger on a full transfer.
"We're interested in all aspects as far as signing permanently, as well as on loan with additional money," he said.
