Rangers have confirmed their interest in Estonian defender Enar Jaager and Swedish midfielder Mervan Celik.
Full-back Jaager, currently with Norwegian club Aalesunds, will start a trial with the Ibrox outfit on Monday.
St Johnstone's Francisco Sandaza has been offered a pre-contract and Rangers manager Ally McCoist has spoken to Saints counterpart Steve Lomas.
However, McCoist says he has no interest in Arsenal's Benik Afobe, who had been linked with a loan move.
It appears that any switch for the 20-year-old England Under-19 forward would have been scuppered by injury in any case.
The Ibrox manager also cooled speculation linking him with Garry O'Connor, insisting there are no plans to approach the Hibernian striker.
McCoist is seeking cover for the injured Kyle Lafferty, while speculation continues about the future at Ibrox of top scorer Nikica Jelavic.
The Croatia international striker has been courted by English clubs, but McCoist stressed that there had been no bids for the 26-year-old.
Spanish 27-year-old forward Sandaza is out of contract with St Johnstone in the summer and looks certain to leave the Scottish Premier League club despite being offered a contract extension.
McCoist said: "I spoke to Steve Lomas this morning just to let him know that we have put a pre-contract bid in for the end of the season when his contract is up.
"That's where we are and I think Sandaza's agent will be speaking to him on Monday or Tuesday next week."
The 21-year-old Celik began his career with Hacken before moving to Gothenburg rivals GAIS on a three-year contract in 2009.
However, the Sweden Under-21 international is now a free agent, although it was being stressed that completion of the deal is "not imminent".
"He is a player we have been looking at for a good while now and we have been in touch with his agent," said McCoist.
"He's a young player we have looked at in recent months and he has impressed us.
"He's one that we would like to come here.
"We have made an offer to the player's agent and we are just waiting on feedback and hopefully that can be agreed."
Jaager is in his second spell with Norwegian top-flight outfit Aalesund, having spent a year with Italians Ascoli.
The 27-year-old, capped 84 times for his country, began his career with Estonian outfit Tervis Pärnu before starting one of two spells with Flora.
He has also played for Warrior Valga and Torpedo Moscow.
