Strathclyde Police have made an arrest following alleged racist comments on Twitter aimed at two Rangers players.

A 41-year-old man will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday after an investigation into complaints that Kyle Bartley and Maurice Edu were abused on the social networking site.

"Disappointing that in 2012 things like this are still happening," tweeted Bartley, who is on loan from Arsenal.

"Hopefully the police will take action. Thank you all for the support."

And Edu, responding to a tweet from United States international team-mate Jozy Altidore, added: "Sad day when that's what people are tweeting."

Earlier this month, it was alleged that Inverness striker Gregory Tade had been racially abused in a message posted on social networking website Twitter.
