Lee Mansell scored the only goal as Torquay strengthened their play-off bid, while keeping Dagenham & Redbridge in the relegation zone.
Mansell struck with five minutes remaining of the first half from the edge of the penalty area.
The Daggers had a chance to level in the second half but Michael Spillane's free-kick was saved well by Gulls keeper Bobby Olejnik.
Danny Stevens could have sealed it late on but Chris Lewington saved his shot.
