Watford defender Martin Taylor has suffered a setback in his return to full fitness after breaking his toe.
The 32-year-old has not featured since October after undergoing surgery on a collarbone injury.
But the centre-half's attempt at a comeback was cut short during a friendly with Dagenham & Redbridge last week with an assessment revealing he has fractured his big toe.
The Hornets have yet to establish how long Taylor will be sidelined for.
Boss Sean Dyche bolstered his defensive options earlier this month by signing Nyron Nosworthy on a permanent deal.
Meanwhile, midfielder Stephen McGinn continues to step up his recovery from the knee injury which has ruled hin out since March last year.
"Steve's making good progress. He's coming through nicely and enjoying his training," Dyche told BBC Three Counties Radio.
