St Mirren's Jim Goodwin appreciates Hibs' interest in signing him, but says his current club are in pole position to retain his services.

The Paisley club's captain is out of contract at the end of the season.

He said: "Saints have made me an offer and negotiations are still ongoing. Are Saints favourites? Absolutely.

"I'm very flattered by Hibs' interest; the last I've heard is that Hibs are going to send a letter to the club and request permission to speak to me."

The former Celtic player and Republic of Ireland midfielder is delighted to have caught the eye of new Hibs manager Pat Fenlon.

"It's quite flattering, it shows that I must be doing something right on the park to gain the interest of Hibs, such a big club in the SPL," Goodwin added on BBC Radio Scotland.

"But I'm extremely happy here at St Mirren. I'm club captain. Like I say, negotiations are ongoing to extend my deal here and until I know any different, that's the way I'll be thinking about it.

"I'm enjoying my time here and I'm desperately trying to get back fit to get in the team, because I love playing for this club."
