Colchester United critics following a trend - John Ward

Ward's side faced jeers from sections of the home support on Saturday

Colchester United boss John Ward says fans who showed their frustration with his side at the weekend are merely following a trend.

Saturday's 2-1 home defeat by bottom club Chesterfield leaves the U's with just one win in their last five games.

"I think they copy things. Arsene Wenger's not very good at the moment and probably Andre Villas-Boas too," Ward told BBC Essex.

"I think it's a trend that football managers tend to get."

Attacker Ian Henderson had a chance to secure a late point for Colchester but squandered a clear opportunity.

And Ward knows the brunt of supporters' complaints will be directed at him when the team fails to deliver all three points.

"I like Ian Henderson, he'll play again next week," he said.

"But he misses a chance and it's my fault. It's the way of the world and the job I do. I just get on with it."
