Hibs winger Ivan Sproule has been given a two-match suspended ban for comments made about referee Craig Thomson.

The Northen Irishman was critical of Thomson and the award of a penalty against him following a 1-0 defeat at Aberdeen in December.

Sproule said the spot-kick decision was "ridiculous" and suggested Thomson be demoted to the First Division.

Aberdeen's Peter Pawlett was subsequently handed a two-match ban for diving to win the penalty.

After the game at Pittodrie, Sproule described Thomson's performance as "one of the poorest refereeing performances I've seen in a long time" and "a shambles".

Sproule's ban will apply if he again breaches rule 68 - which pertains to the criticism of match officials - before 17 December.
