Jake Harris struck four minutes from the end to rescue a point for 10-man Newport County at Stockport County.
Danny Rowe gave the home side an early lead after a good flick-down from Tom Elliot, only for Andy Sandell to equalise from the edge of the area.
But the Newport midfielder went from hero to villain, after being sent off for foul and abusive language.
Rowe's low free-kick seemed set to give Stockport victory, but Harris pounced to punish a poor clearance.
Newport County manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Wales:
"Everyone who took part in the game today... stuck to their task in circumstances where I didn't feel that the sending-off was necessary.
"There was no malice, no intent, it was an open hand. I've heard people talk elbows but it was no elbow.
"I'm disappointed, we'll appeal it, so hopefully we'll get [Andy Sandell] off of it [a ban]."
