Ballymena striker Jordan Baker is described as a long term injury doubt by his club after he was assaulted in Belfast at the weekend.
The PSNI confirmed in a statement on Thursday that "a 22-year-old man was assaulted outside licensed premises in the Odyssey Pavillion shortly after 0125 on Sunday.
"He sustained facial injuries and needed hospital treatment. A 21-year-old is assisting police with their inquiries."
United's team manager Glenn Fergson said Baker would be out of football for a lengthy period.
"He has a broken jaw and had to have a plate and screws inserted," said Ferguson.
The incident happened just hours after Baker played for Ballymena in their 3-1 Irish Cup win over Derriaghy CC.
