Gary McCutcheon scored both goals as Ballymena United beat struggling Glenavon at Mourneview Park.

The striker, set to leave for Crusaders at the end of the season, got the opener in the 31st minute with a shot that deflected off Jay Magee.

The second was a penalty five minutes before the break after Magee had fouled Johnny Taylor.

Brian McCaul had Glenavon's best effort in the second half but United keeper Dwayne Nelson pulled off a fine save.

Glenavon player-manager Gary Hamilton came on as a half-time substitute but could not save the Lurgan men from another defeat.

The Mourneview Park men, who remain one-from-bottom, have won just one of their last eight Premiership matches.
