Christophe Berra's header secured Scotland a draw against Slovenia in Koper.
Andraz Kirm nodded the hosts in front in the 33rd minute after outjumping Russell Martin.
But Berra connected well with Charlie Adam's corner to level the scores before the interval.
Scotland's Jamie Mackie and the hosts' Zlatko Dedic both came close to claiming a winning goal late in the match.
Craig Levein's Scots will face USA and another as yet unconfirmed opponent before the start of the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign in September.
Valter Birsa got in behind the Scotland defence early on and tried to slip a shot past Allan McGregor but the goalkeeper blocked with his foot.
The visitors were being restricted to long-range efforts and Mackie and James McArthur were unable to trouble keeper Samir Handanovic.
But the Scots grew into the game and carved out an excellent chance when Adam found James Morrison down the inside left channel and the midfielder's strike was touched onto the post by Handanovic, who then gathered before the ball could ran loose.
Slovenia responded and won a free-kick on the right angle of the box, from which Dedic forced MGregor into a finger-tip save over the bar.
Morrison tested Handanovic again after running on to Martin's pass.
The hosts moved ahead when Miso Brecko persevered on the right against Charlie Mulgrew and crossed for Kirm to force a header into the net despite the presence of Martin.
The lead lasted six minutes as Adam's corner was guided into the right-hand corner of the net by the head of Berra.
Berra then looped a header over from Adam's free-kick.
Barry Bannan replaced Adam at the interval and Aleksandar Radosavljevic fired into the arms of McGregor in the opening moments of the second half.
Bannan smacked an effort into the grasp of Handanovic at the end of a sweeping move by Levein's side.
Josip Ilicic's strike had power but lacked direction as it flew past the Scottish goal.
Further changes ensued throughout the second half and one of those substitutes, Robert Snodgrass, crossed for Mackie to head-flick inches wide.
That was followed by Dedic's fierce drive that shaved McGregor's right-hand post.
The Slovenians threatened at set pieces as the clock ran down but the Scottish defence held firm.
