Tomi Morgan appointed Aberystwyth Town manager

Welsh Premier League

Aberystwyth Town have appointed Tomi Morgan as manager following the dismissal of Alan Morgan.

Alan Morgan was sacked following Aber's Welsh Cup quarter-final defeat to Welsh Alliance side Cefn Druids on Saturday.

Results under his reign in the Welsh Premier League have also been poor, leaving the club in a relegation fight.

Tomi Morgan, who managed Aberystwyth for five seasons in the late 1980s and early 90s, was sacked as Carmarthen manager in December.

Aber chairman Tony Bates said: "We are delighted that Tomi has agreed to take over after Alan's departure.

"He served the club with great distinction in the past, and his experience in the Welsh Premier League speaks for itself.

"I am also very glad to have some local involvement in the management team once again. It was the ideal opportunity for Tomi to come back, and he will have the full support of the board in his role as first team manager."

Alan Morgan, 38, was appointed Aber manager in November 2009 and guided the club to fourth place in his first season.

A seventh-place finish and a place in the Europa League play-offs followed in the 2010-11 season, but he leaves the club having won just four of their 24 league games this season.

"The Club would like to place on record its appreciation of and thanks for Alan's hard work over the past 27 months, and wish him all the best in his future career," Aber said in a statement on the club's website.external-link
