Ballymena United overcame the first-half dismissal of skipper Allan Jenkins to beat Newry City 2-1 in their Irish Cup quarter-final.

Gary McCutcheon put United ahead when he tapped in at the back post after good work by Jenkins after six minutes.

Jenkins was sent-off for a second yellow card offence on 42 and Marty Haveron levelled with a strike from close range just before the interval.

Debutant Alan Davidson fired home the winner in the 76th minute.

The former Newry player pounced to score after Tony Kane's free-kick had been parried.

Davidson had earlier chances to score for the Sky Blues.
