Karl Ledsham scored direct from a corner for Southport in their 1-0 victory at AFC Telford.
The only goal of the game came in bizarre circumstances just after half-time, with Ledsham's cross finding the net after a defensive mix-up.
Telford's Sean Newton blazed a late penalty over the bar after Kyle Perry had been fouled by Steve Akrigg.
Ray Putterill was sent off in stoppage time for foul and abusive language but 10-man Southport held on for the win.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Southport manager Liam Waston told BBC Radio Merseyside:
"We've got 10 games left, and if someone would have said after 36 games Southport would have been in the play-offs, there would have been men in white coats coming.
"But we're there on merit and that was our 11th away win and they can't all be flukes.
"I thought for a 20-minute spell at the start of the second half we were really good.
"We're probably set to counter attack, but at home teams will not come out as much and I think that's why we're more successful away from home."
