Newry City beat Glenavon in Mid-Ulster Cup final
Darren Freeman's 36th-minute strike gave Newry City a 1-0 win over Glenavon in Wednesday's Mid-Ulster Cup final.
When Darren Hanaphy teed up the chance, Freeman curled a superb 20-yard shot past former Newry keeper Andy Coleman for the only goal at Mourneview Park.
Newry, managed by former Manchester United defender Pat McGibbon, went clsoe to another just before the break.
Keeper Coleman dropped Marty Haveron's header but the referee ruled it had not crossed the line.
Apart from player-manager Gary Hamilton and Kyle Cherry, Premiership side Glenavon fielded fringe and reserve team players.
