Dagenham and Redbridge picked up a precious three points against fellow strugglers Macclesfield.
The hosts took the lead through Medy Elito's deflected strike which left Silkmen goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell wrong-footed.
Debutant Matt Smith came close to levelling when his header hit the bar before George Donnelly's follow up was saved by Chris Lewington.
The hosts scored again late on when O'Donnell could not hold Elito's shot.
The Daggers remain rooted to the foot of League Two but are now just one point away from safety.
Macclesfield, who have not won all calendar year, are outside the drop zone on goal difference only.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Macclesfield Town manager Gary Simpson told BBC Radio Manchester:
"They set off better than us. They put it in behind us, moved up the pitch, got the long throws-in and put us under pressure.
"We half coped with it a bit but they got a goal, another deflection, and we got into them a bit in the second half.
"You've to give them credit, they're fighting for their lives, they put us under immense pressure and we struggled to cope with it.
"The kid [Matt Smith] has won a lot of flick-ons, it's just a shame we couldn't get onto one of them."
