Southampton's Lee Holmes joins Swindon Town on loan

Southampton winger Lee Holmes has joined Swindon Town on loan until the end of the season.

Holmes spent the last month on loan at Oxford United, who were looking to extend his loan spell.

The 24-year-old previously enjoyed a stint at the County Ground in 2004 and played 16 times before returning to then parent club Derby County.

He left the Rams to join Southampton in 2008 and has played 48 games for the Championship club.

Holmes made seven appearances for Oxford, scoring twice as well as assisting both U's goals in the 2-0 win over his new loan club on 3 March.

Oxford chairman Kelvin Thomas told the club website: external-link"Lee did really well for us. Unfortunately we have suffered a bit with his success and a lot of clubs have been looking at him, clubs with deeper pockets than us.

"We got him for a decent price but we certainly can't compete when we are talking about paying most of his wages."
