Gateshead's hopes of making the play-offs suffered a blow as they failed to win at Tamworth, despite going ahead.
The visitors took the lead as Jon Shaw scored his 32nd of the season when he headed in from Martin Brittain's cross.
However, the hosts equalised with their first goal in six matches through Jean-Paul Marna's penalty after James Curtis had fouled Scott Barrow in the area.
Barrow hit the post but Curtis missed a chance to win it late on, heading straight at goalkeeper Jonathan Hedge.
