Harrogate Town manager Simon Weaver put their 1-0 win at Eastwood down to an improved second-half performance.
Substitute Jonny Allan scored in the final minute of the game to leave Harrogate Town in 16th in the Blue Square Bet North.
Weaver told BBC Radio York: "We applied a lot of pressure particularly in the second half.
"Perseverance got the winner for us really. We just kept going and doing the same things."
He added: "We changed it at half time, went to 4-4-2 and we were a handful.
"You can't help but think it's just not going to be our day.
"Crosses kept coming in and we were just the wrong side of the post, or over the bar or the keeper would pull off a save. It just wasn't happening."
Allan came on from the bench in the last 15 minutes of the game and Weaver was delighted with the impact he made.
"It was a class finish. He's on a bit of a run," he said.
"It's just unfortunate for us that at the minute he can't start games because his calf's just not fully repaired. But he's a character and the sort we need.
"We've got to start doing the basics right and doing battle with the enemy and not within ourselves.
"I always thought it would be a one goal in it match and it was.
"They dug in and they made it battle.
"When you walk across the pitch you realise it was difficult keeping the ball as much as we want to.
"That's what we're trying to build but sometimes you have to go back to old fashioned football and make sure you get it wide and get the balls in the box and win your challenges."
