Gillingham 2-0 Macclesfield
Macclesfield dropped into the relegation zone after they lost away to play-off hopefuls Gillingham.
The hosts went ahead shortly after the interval when Matt Fish slotted home to score his first for the club.
Gills keeper Paulo Gazzaniga then made a fine save to deny Vinny Mukendi and keep the hosts' lead intact.
Chris Whelpdale's superb diving header from Danny Spiller's cross then extended the Gills' lead to leave the visitors three points off safety.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent:
"We started off a bit slowly but then we gradually got into the game by doing what we asked them to do yesterday and that was to get the ball down and try to pass the ball.
"The first goal would be fitting in the Premiership the way we moved the ball around and I'm delighted for Matt Fish because he's come in for a little bit of criticism.
"We take loads of confidence going into Friday's game against Bristol Rovers and we've got to believe we can do it. We've got to keep putting in performances from now until the end of the season at the highest level."
Macclesfield Town manager Brian Horton told BBC Radio Manchester:
"I thought we started well and we missed two or three chances from set-pieces.
"Within three minutes (of the second half) we were a goal down and it's so frustrating.
"I can't fault them for their effort or their attitude.
"It's just little things that cost you goals, and if you don't track runners at any level, you get punished."
