Striker Billy Sharp wants Southampton to go into the Premier League as Championship winners.
Sharp scored twice in Saturday's win over his former club Doncaster Rovers as Southampton maintained their five-point lead over Reading at the top.
With seven games left Saints are nine points clear of West Ham in third and well-placed for automatic promotion.
But Sharp told BBC Radio Solent: "We want to win the league. We won it last year and hopefully we can do it again."
Manager Nigel Adkins has been careful not to comment on the league, pointing out West Ham still have a game in hand, although a fifth successive draw for the Hammers at the weekend extended the gap between first and third.
Sharp, 26, was making just his fourth start since joining from Rovers for an estimated fee of £2m in January, but he took the opportunity to make his case for a regular start.
"We've got 30 quality players here and I've had to bide my time," he said.
"I maybe wasn't the fittest when I came. Every single player works a lot harder than the rest of the league and I had to sharpen my game on that side, but I feel I've done that.
"We're in a good position, and while I didn't want to rub it in Doncaster's face I was delighted to get the goals."
Sharp shrugged off the confrontation with former team-mate Pascal Chimbonda that followed a mis-timed tackle.
"That's just Pascal Chimbonda - it was hardly a horrible tackle. I don't care whether he's my friend or not, all that matters is we got the three points."
