Tony Gray's injury-time penalty secured Blue Square Bet Premier play-off chasers Southport a point at Barrow.
The hosts went ahead through Joseph Jackson's bullet header from Jack Mackreth's cross.
Southport levelled as Chris Lever's pass was emphatically finished by Darren Stephenson.
Jackson hit the post before substitute Richie Baker put Barrow ahead but Gray levelled from the spot after Andy Nicholas brought down Shaun Whalley.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Barrow manager Dave Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria:
"We showed urgency, good commitment and are just absolutely devastated by a horrendously bad decision.
"That's the way it's going and we've got to keep working hard and hopefully we'll get a terrible referee who will give us some decisions soon.
"It's never in a million year a penalty. I spoke to Liam Watson when we went off the pitch then and he's relieved. He was laughing, not in a bad way, but he couldn't believe the referee has give it."
