Promotion hopefuls Torquay and Southend cancelled each other out in a stalemate at Plainmoor.
Both sides hit the woodwork in the first half, with Southend midfielder Ryan Hall's 25-yard free-kick bouncing off the top of the bar.
Torquay's Ryan Jarvis, on loan from Walsall, headed onto a post following a corner from the left.
Central defender Mark Ellis made a brilliant goal-line clearance to deny Southend's Bilel Mohsni.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Torquay United Manager Martin Ling told BBC Radio Devon:
"It was a hard-earned point. We worked our socks off defensively and never really tested their goalkeeper.
"A draw was a fair result. They came for a draw and they got what they came for. We wanted to win but I don't think we deserved it.
"They came here, worked hard, made it difficult for us and played to a pattern that they thought was right."
