Leicester 0-0 Burnley

Burnley and Leicester both saw their faint hopes of reaching the play-offs disappear with a goalless draw.

Charlie Austin went agonisingly close for Burnley in the second half with a header which hit both posts and he was then denied a tap-in from the rebound by Sol Bamba's brilliant tackle.

Lee Peltier had Leicester's best chance with a header which was cleared off the line by Kieran Trippier.

The draw denied Burnley a club record-equalling 11th away league victory.

Leicester threatened first through Peltier's header and then saw David Nugent's strike blocked by goalkeeper Lee Grant's feet.

But the visitors were left to rue their luck after Austin's header hit a post, bounced along the goal-line and hit the other post, with Bamba's intervention preventing the former Swindon man from an easy finish.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson:

"I felt we were the team that tried to win the game, and it's frustrating for everyone because as fans you want to see your team scoring goals and the players want to be as positive as possible but sometimes it just doesn't happen for you."

"We still want two performances as it is important we finish as positively as possible.

"The reason we have missed out [on the play-offs] is because we have not been consistent enough. Back-to-back wins on only two occasions is not good enough.

"We were unable to sustain any sort of run. Clearly you are not going to have success if you don't do that and that is something I will look to address."

Burnley manager Eddie Howe:

"It's another clean sheet, which is really pleasing for us, but we said before the game that we were desperate to go for the 12 wins and make history for the football club.

"But it's a good point really. In the first half I thought we were excellent.

"We had some great moves, especially in the first half on the counter attack, and we created some decent chances and on another day I'd like to think we could have taken one of them.

"In the second half it was more defensive from us as Leicester were on top but I still thought we had the best chances in the game."
