MK Dons strengthened their push for fourth place in League One with victory against relegated Rochdale.

The visitors took an early lead when Luke Chadwick supplied Jay O'Shea, who drilled a low shot through the legs of keeper Matt Edwards.

Substitute Dean Bowditch made it 2-0 with his first touch of the game, stroking home O'Shea's centre after a clever back heel from Jabo Ibehre.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro pulled one back to earn a late consolation for Dale.

Rochdale assistant manager Jimmy Bell told BBC Radio Manchester:

"For a couple of weeks now, making decisions about the squad has been a big agenda.

"We've done nothing but think about the players we're going to retain and we've got a good idea now of where we're going to go next season.

"We're confident and very optimistic that we can bounce back.

"League Two is a tough league to get out of, but hopefully this time next year we'll be looking at promotion."
