A Carla Cantrell goal sent Lincoln to the top of the Women's Super League with a 1-0 win at Bristol Academy.
Cantrell chased a long ball out of defence to fire a 25-yard shot in off the bar three minutes into the second half.
In an evenly fought opening period, Academy's Nicki Watts had seen a goalbound effort well saved by Lincoln goalkeeper Nicola Hobbs.
But after Cantrell's goal Lincoln created the better chances and both Cantrell and Lucy Staniforth went close to increasing their lead.
The Imps may be top for only 24 hours as Birmingham can go level on points with them if they win their Sunday fixture against Everton.
