Newtown earn Welsh Premier League relegation reprieve

Newtown have earned a Welsh Premier relegation reprieve after Haverfordwest County missed out on promotion.

Haverfordwest were the only MacWhirter Welsh League team to secure the FAW's domestic licence needed to compete in the top-flight.

In order to secure promotion, the Bluebirds had to finish in the Welsh League Division One's top two.

But Taffs Wells defeated bottom side Caerau Ely 5-1 to leapfrog Haverfordwest into second place.

Carmarthen Town, were also give a reprieve after Neath were relegated from the Welsh Premier League after failing in their licence bid.

Huw Gray Cymru Alliance champions Gap Connah's Quay are the only club to have gained promotion to the Welsh Premier League for the 2012-13 season.
