Partick Thistle have made winger Steven Lawless their third signing in as many days after securing midfielder Hugh Murray and defender Aaron Muirhead.

Murray arrived after being released by St Mirren, the 33-year-old having spent his whole career with the Paisley club.

He is joined in Jackie McNamara's squad by two 21-year-olds, with all three signing two-year contracts.

Since 2008, Muirhead has been with Annan Athletic, with whom Lawless spent some time on loan from Motherwell.

Lawless came through the ranks at Fir Park but failed to make a first-team appearance for the Scottish Premier League club.

After being farmed out for a short spell at Annan, he made his senior debut on loan to Albion Rovers, helping the Coatbridge outfit win promotion from Divison Three last year.

He made the first of his two Motherwell appearances, scoring once, in a 4-0 win over Clyde in the Scottish Communities League Cup but returned to Rovers for another loan spell before being released at the end of the season.

Muirhead had spells as a youth with Ayr United, Queen of the South and Crewe Alexandra before joining Annan and going on to make 127 first-team appearances for the Third Division club.

Murray, who has already been inducted into the St Mirren Hall of Fame, made his Buddies debut in 1997 and went on to make 467 appearances for the club, twice helping them win promotion to the Scottish Premier League and lifting the Challenge Cup once.

McNamara told his club website: "Hugh Murray will bring great experience to the squad - but, more importantly, experience of winning the First Division.

"It's important to have a really strong spine to the team and Hugh helps provide that as well as being able to help the younger members of the squad."

McNamara, who expressed his desire to secure his squad early in the close season, last week re-signed striker Mark McGuigan and defenders Conrad Balatoni and Paul Paton.
