'Lots of interest in Liverpool job'

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre says the club had "plenty of contact" for the vacant managerial position following Kenny Dalglish's departure on Wednesday.

Ayre insists the club did not begin their managerial search prior to Dalglish's sacking and says the work has now "started in earnest", although the club is not looking in "any particular sphere" other than a person who "fits" the club.

He adds that senior players such as Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher were shocked by the decision to sack Dalglish but says the players support the club's decision to move forward.
