The dutch deserve to leave early, their defenders are as average as the Irish. Vlaar is not good enough, I remember he was bullied by Leroy Lita when they were in U21. Only Van der Wiel that plays for a top team. Look at Mathijsen and Heitinga, they are not even better than Kjaer, Agger or even Bruno Alves.
#16: Ok perhaps I'm in the wrong for misquoting you there but I still don't think van der Wiel, Willems and Heitinga (played in his least strongest position) are even top-level players. Do agree with your comment about their team ethic, or lack of it. Even in their talent-packed forward lines there was a serious lack of cohesion.
Christano Ronaldo: world class player, he just lacks the consistency at big games on the international stage to be considered a true greatPortugal: A decidedly average side that is organised but relies too heavily on Nani and Ronaldo and if neither show up they struggle to create chances. Yes they did well to get out of the group, but the Czechs will fancy their chances against them.
Italy to prove dangerous in this tournament... I expect an England v Italy quarter-final..taly to win by two goals tonight and Spain to grab a narrow win over Croatia... Unless they play out a 2-2 draw??? Remember Sweden v Denmark 2004?http://jedidiahgore.blogspot.it/2012/06/italy-hoping-for-no-match-fixing-today.html
Yes Portugal, C.Ronaldo really had a good game against a team that can't really defend, but I thought Veloso and Moutinho bossed the midfield along with Nani on the other wing causing mayhem !
great game last night!!!portugal missed many opportunities to score, and defeat the dutch by 4 or 5.well done cristiano!bring it on the c.republic!
Not fit to lace Messi's boots might be a bit harsh. In other era's, Ronaldo would be the greatest player, he is unlucky to be playing when Messi is around!Messi has a better strike ratio than Ronaldo at international level. He also is a completely different player...with plenty of assists, while Ronaldo reminds me of the best kid in school who has to always have the ball and score!
#29 I'm not sure it beats Welbeck's goal on Friday as that was something rarely seen. But then I'm a United fan born in Manchester and I like to see a local boy up there doing something that sets himself apart from the rest.
That takedown of his when the ball came over his shoulder, to be the Dutch right-back was sensational...Best piece of skill in the tournament yet.
My predictions: Greece 0 Germany 2 C. Republic 1 Portugal 2 Spain 1 France 1 Italy 1 England 1http://jedidiahgore.blogspot.it/2012/06/exhilarating-night-of-football.html
norsefox - not fit to lace messi's boots? oh please. Messi scored a hatrick in a friendly, big deal, dont remember him doing it in the world cup. Ron has scored 112 in 101 for madrid. Outscored messi in the league season before last. Won la liga with real this season n you have the nerve to say he isn't fit to lace his boots, unreal. I'm guessing its more of a personal thing than an objective view
Ronaldo isn't fit to lace Messi's boots. Messi has scored 82 goals this season- and anyone wanting to look, see his hattrick against Brazil last week- goo.gl/HgUU9One criticism of Ronaldo is he goes missing in the big games. At least he performed well yesterday and surely will against the Czechs too.Nevertheless, he's still got to do more before he can be considered in league with Messi.
That was a display of talent that's rarely seen. He made the Dutch, so called super stars superstars, look very ordinary. Like all great artists when he's "in the mood" watch out. Portugal, as a team looked every bit as good as Germany.
Ronaldo is not the Best player in Europe, he is the best player in the World! There are better dribblers, there are faster runners (Maybe), there are harder shots, there are better headers, there are better passers. But what Ronaldo has is the very Highest standard of all the 'Technical' abilities and the 'physica'l ones to boot wrapped in one player. In full flow hes quite simply unplayable...
Thank you for your comments, i hope to eliminate germany and play england in the final CR7
I don't think Portugal get the credit they deserve. They are a great team with some great players. i don't think they're quite as good as Germany but they are v. good. They sliced Holland open last night, with their quick style of play and missed several chances. I think Holland's biggest mistake in this tournament is playing V.Bommel & de Jong together - far too defensive v teams like Denmark
Although he took his chances well, the main difference for me was the amount of space the netherlands allowed Cristiano and Nani to operate in. Backing them to edge past the Czechs and fall at the first defensively competent side they face.http://hitting-the-target.blogspot.co.uk/
