Mansfield Town captain Adam Murray has been appointed as the club's new assistant manager.

The 30-year-old midfielder will combine his playing duties with the coaching role following Micky Moore's decision not to stay with the Stags.

Moore was offered a one-year deal but is returning to teaching.

Meanwhile, 23-year-old goalkeeper Shane Redmond, who made only one start last season, has extended his contract with the Stags by a further year.

Speaking about Murray's new role as assistant boss, manager Paul Cox told the club website:external-link "I have a good working relationship with Adam. He is excited about the role and can't wait to get started."

Murray joined the Stags permanently from Luton Town in January 2011.
