Glentoran will play Derry City in their first pre-season friendly of the season on Saturday 7 July at the Oval.

The Candystripes will travel to Belfast having played an away league match against UCD in Dublin the night before.

The game comes just eight weeks after the agony of their penalty shoot-out loss to Crusaders in the Setanta Sports Cup final at the same venue.

Colin Nixon, Glentoran's captain and record appearance holder, has signed a new one year deal with the club.

Nixon, who made his debut as a 17 year old, has already made 772 appearances for the Glens and will be aiming to pass the 800 mark during the new season.

The previous record of 555 appearances was held by Billy McCullough.

Glentoran's first game of the season against Derry City on 7 July has a 15:00 kick-off.
