Wrexham have signed ex-Tranmere Rovers goalkeeper Andy Coughlin on a one-year contract.

The Liverpool-born 'keeper was released by Rovers at the end of the season and had been training with Andy Morrell's side.

Wrexham were looking to sign a back-up goalkeeper for first choice Joslain Mayebi following the departure of Chris Maxwell to Fleetwood Town.

"Wrexham showed the most interest," Coughlin said.

"They were the first ones to say they wanted me so I was happy to sign here.

"You look at the set-up here and I don't think it's a Blue Square Premier club. It should be a in a few higher divisions.

"The set-up's good, the lads are brilliant and it's a good opportunity to come here and push Jos all the way."

The 19-year-old was understudy to Tranmere's former Wales under-21 goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams last season and made two appearances.

Coughlin is the third player to join Wrexham during the close season following Brett Ormerod and Martin Riley.
