Oxford United coach Andy Melville says defender Tony Capaldi will be a key player for the U's this season.
Capaldi, 30, played just once last term because of injury but with Liam Davis ruled out of the start of the campaign, the defender seems due more chances.
He told BBC Radio Oxford: "He's a quality player with lots of caps for his country. He'll be massive for us."
Davis is set to return at the end of September, meaning Capaldi - who has 22 caps for his country - is likely to fill the left-back position for the U's.
And Melville says the former Birmingham and Leeds player is a perfect replacement.
"He is very composed on the ball and very experienced," said Melville.
"The goals we have conceded in pre season have been individual mistakes but we are still learning.
"Tony has played at Championship level and international level and his experience will help the younger players."
