Oxford United boss Chris Wilder vows to win fitness battle

Oxford United manager Chris Wilder is determined injury problems will not ruin the start of their season despite the unavailability of key players.

The U's are without Michael Duberry, Liam Davis, Peter Leven and Andy Whing as the season approaches.

Oxford were plagued by injury problems towards the end of last season.

"We are a touch light and the group have to get through that and we will do our best like we always have done," Wilder told BBC Radio Oxford.

"We've still got a few of our main players out which is not the greatest of situations.

"We've got a squad of 22 and there is a big bulk of them missing.

"Michael goes in for his operation next week and he will be out for the longest, then Liam Davis.

"Pete and Whing will be out until early September and (Harry) Worley as soon as. That can't be rushed and we will go with what we've got."

Meanwhile, trialists Ryan Tafazoli, Courtney Harris and Alex Evans will not be offered permanent contracts at the Kassam Stadium.
