Port Vale 3-0 Barnet

Port Vale sealed a comfortable opening-day victory over disappointing Barnet.

Louis Dodds volleyed Vale ahead in the eighth minute before former Stevenage winger Jennison Myrie-Williams stroked home a 20th minute penalty, awarded when Tom Pope was fouled by Jon Nurse.

The Bees failed to trouble Vale keeper Chris Neal, with Nurse going the closest when he fired a first-half effort into the side-netting.

And Pope sealed it when he side-footed into the far corner of the net for 3-0.

Port Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke:

"We're pleased with the three points, because that's all it is. I am delighted with some of the play today and disappinted with some also, but all in all I've got to be happy.

"I think it's important that you set the tempo of the game and we did that early on. To go 2-0 up within 25 minutes was well deserved.

"Louis (Dodds) has the ability, we've all seen that. I think the problem we've had with Louis is trying to find him a position that suits him the best.

"I thought he did well against Burnley. He deserves his chance and has the ability to score goals."
