Nathan Fisher goals impress Gateshead boss Ian Bogie
Manager Ian Bogie has praised Nathan Fisher after the striker scored twice to help Gateshead to a 4-1 home victory against Mansfield Town on Tuesday.
Fisher, 23, missed the second half of last season with a groin problem but has featured in both of the club's Blue Square Bet Premier fixtures this term.
"I'm delighted for Nathan," Bogie told BBC Newcastle.
"He showed when he finds pockets of space, coming off defenders and getting at them, not many can handle him."
Bogie added: "Nathan had horrendous injuries last year and it deflated him.
"But we knew he had ability and when he's fit and he's learning and understanding what we want from him, he's showed he can be a real threat."
The Tynesiders were unbeaten for the first seven games of last season's league campaign, but fell away in the latter end to finish outside the play-offs.
However four points from six against two of the division's promotion favourites in Luton and Mansfield has raised optimism that Gateshead can again compete at the top end of the table.
"Mansfield and Luton are title favourites, we have shown what we're capable of," Bogie added.
"We respect the opposition, but we've got to believe that our players are capable as well."
