Crusaders pair Colin Coates and Jordan Owens face a spell on the sidelines after sustaining injuries in the club's 3-1 friendly defeat by a Liverpool XI.

Striker Owens picked up a calf strain in Tuesday night's game at Ravenhill while Crues skipper Coates suffered a badly swollen ankle.

Coates' injury is believed to be the more serious but both players may be ruled out of action for several weeks.

Crusaders play Ballymena in the Irish Premiership at Seaview on Saturday.

The north Belfast side lost to Coleraine in their league opener and news of the injuries to two of his most influential players will come as a setback to manager Stephen Baxter.
