Grimsby 4-1 Mansfield

Greg Pearson

Grimsby registered an emphatic first win of the season against a Mansfield side who had Gary Roberts sent off.

Frankie Artus found the top corner with a superb curling shot and Greg Pearson converted a penalty after Aswad Thomas was fouled just before the break.

Joe Colbeck made it three on the hour before Pearson headed his second to put the Mariners in total control.

Roberts was dismissed for a second bookable offence but sub Matt Rhead nodded a late consolation.

We just needed confidence - Scott

Grimsby joint manager Rob Scott told BBC Radio Humberside:

"We knew that performance was there; we saw it pre-season against Scunthorpe and Hull.

"I thought they showed good courage after the Nuneaton game at home - probably quite rightly the fans vented their frustration because it wasn't good enough.

"Today they showed the confidence and the bottle to get on the ball.

"People probably think we're mad at times when we say there's goals in the team - it was just a case of it clicking."
