Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones praises Rodri debut

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones was impressed with the goal-scoring debut of new Spanish signing Rodri.

The 22-year-old joined on a season-long loan from Barcelona B on Monday and scored his first Owls goal in the win against Birmingham on Tuesday.

"He's got something different that English players don't have," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"He's got that knack of finding space when he gets the ball and it was a very good debut."

Jones added: "When he gets the ball he's always looking to go forward and he likes the physical aspect of the game too."

Tuesday's win means the Owls have now taken four points from their opening two matches after gaining promotion to the Championship and stretched their unbeaten run under Jones to 16 matches.

Despite the impressive results, the Wednesday boss is still hoping to strengthen his side.

"It's nice to get a good start because it's important when you get promoted that you win your first home game," he continued.

"There's only about three players here who've played in the Championship before so we're still looking for other players to help the squad."

However, Jones has ruled out making a move for Wolves centre-half Danny Batth, who spent last season on loan at Hillsborough.
