Crawley Town defeat a wake-up call - Josh Simpson

Crawley Town midfielder Josh Simpson says the squad must not get too downhearted following their first defeat of the season.

The Reds lost 3-0 at fellow League One newcomers Swindon Town on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old told BBC Sussex: "It's a bit of a wake-up call for everyone. It's a step up from last year and a difficult league anyway.

"We've definitely got the quality to compete in this league. We need to keep our heads high."

He added: "When we get passing the ball, we look a good team. I think we can out play any team in this division.

"We need to dust ourselves down and take the confidence from pre-season and the Millwall and Scunthorpe games into Doncaster on Saturday."

The former Peterborough man believes the Sussex club were somewhat unfortunate in the manner of their defeat at the County Ground.

"They scored at the right time and it killed us a little bit," he continued.

"The first was a sucker punch while the second and third were a bit sloppy from us. We knew it would be difficult.

"I think they'll be up there [challenging for promotion] but I think we will too."
