St Paul's start season with 7-0 thumping of Grouville


St Paul's got their Jersey Premiership campaign off to a flying start, thrashing Grouville 7-0 in the opening match of the season.

Craig Russell grabbed a hat-trick, with fellow island representative players Jack Cannon (2), Jay Reid and Luke Watson also netting.

The match at Clos des Pauvres was the only top-flight game in the island on Saturday.

Relegated Trinity began life in the Championship by beating Magpies 3-1.

First Tower United, who also dropped to the second tier, were held 2-2 at St Clement.

In the day's other matches, Jersey Portuguese were 3-0 winners over Beeches, St John beat Jersey Nomads 2-0, and St Martin drew 1-1 with Sporting Academics.
