Crewe boss Steve Davis reveals Ashley Westwood enquiries
Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis says he has received enquiries for Alex club captain Ashley Westwood.
The 22-year-old midfielder was handed the armband this summer, but his future at the club is now in doubt.
"It's been a bit unsettling for [Westwood] with all the speculation regards to clubs that are interested," Davis told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I have had enquiries. He's getting a bit anxious just to see what it holds at the moment for him."
Westwood is a product of Crewe's youth academy, and won the club's Player of the Season award in his first full campaign.
Last season, he featured prominently in the Alex side which achieved promotion to League One via the play-offs, appearing 47 times.
His performances have alerted other teams, but Davis says that his captain must remain professional.
"At the moment he's a contracted player at Crewe," the 47-year-old said.
"I had a good chat with him, told him how it should be. He's got to be professional and get on with it.
"If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't then he's just got to be the captain that he can be.
"It's the first time he'll have had this sort of speculation in his career and he's got to be professional in how he deals with it."
