On-loan strikers Matt Derbyshire and Leon Clarke were both on target as Oldham and Scunthorpe drew.
Visitors Scunthorpe took an early lead after Clarke drilled a shot inside the far post from 10 yards.
Oldham pulled level when Jonathan Grounds' left-wing cross was bundled in by Derbyshire from six yards.
The hosts were then controversially denied a stoppage-time winner when Robbie Simpson headed in only to be penalised for a foul on Sam Slocombe.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Scunthorpe United manager Alan Knill told BBC Radio Humberside:
"I thought we were outstanding in the first-half and created so many chances, we just didn't take them when we needed too.
"We gave a goal away with what was the only chance that they had first-half and in the second-half you know what's coming. The home team are going to get it forward and put you under pressure but we did enough to withstand it.
"When you need to dig in the players dug in. It's a tough place to come this, as we all know, and we've come away with a credible point.
