Middlesbrough captain Rhys Williams undergoes ankle surgery
Middlesbrough captain Rhys Williams is likely to be out of action for up to four months after undergoing surgery on damaged ankle ligaments.
The 24-year-old utility player picked up the injury in the Teessiders' Capital One Cup victory against Gillingham last month.
Boro feared the player would miss part of the club's Championship season, but the operation was delayed until Monday.
Free agent Andre Bikey was brought in as cover for Williams on Tuesday.
Australia international Williams was appointed captain by manager Tony Mowbray in the summer.
