Scotland's women missed out on automatic qualification for the 2013 European Championships as rampant France won at Tynecastle.

The Scots, who had already secured a play-off berth, fell behind when Marie-Laure Delie slotted past Gemma Fay and Eugenie Le Sommer headed the second.

Strikes in quick succession by Louisa Necib and Le Sommer put the visitors further ahead.

And Delie completed the scoring with another composed finish.

Anna Signeul's side needed a victory by four clear goals to guarantee a spot at next year's finals but Bruno Bini's France were in control from the outset in Edinburgh.

Wendie Renard headed over Fay's crossbar from an early corner and the French soon moved ahead.

Delie beat the offside trap to coolly slot past Fay in the 18th minute.

Camille Abily almost doubled the lead when her shot smacked against the crossbar and Delie could not direct the rebound on target.

Sandrine Soubeyrand was denied by Fay's acrobatic save and, from the resulting corner, Laure Boulleau crossed for Le Sommer to head home.

Scotland rallied towards the interval but snapshots from Lisa Evans and Kim Little did not trouble goalkeeper Celine Deville.

However, the hosts were closer to scoring when Evans hit the bar and then could not convert the rebound.

Necib's shot found the net via the post and France quickly netted again when Le Sommer tucked home.

And Delie's second further extended the advantage and Bini's side end qualifying Group 4 with eight wins out of eight.
